Default Biggest dude on the brushpile.

Hey guys, long time no post.

But I got into some serious fishing and thought you guys might enjoy a report. I am back down near Tampa for my yearly trip to Florida and caught some big nasty fish.

I don't know if any of you remember those Jewfish/Goliath grouper that eluded me last year but I got um pegged this year. Upgraded line, hooks, reel, rod, rod holder and we have landed 13! :D

These things are brutes! They live on any structure in as shallow as 20' or less and also close offshore. They fight like mad to make it back into their structure when hooked just like a big sac-au-lait. Look like a giant bass and triple tail hybrid. And I tell you what when you hook a big one on 500lb line with the drag locked down it is intense! Nothing in your rig can give. They have broken a metal seat pole I rigged into a rod holder, 500lb line, knocked my watch and shades off, yanked the pole out of the boat (which we had tied off thankfully), made me bleed, and nearly crushed my knuckles, BUT I LOVED EVERY HEART PUMPING MINUTE OF IT! :D

So here are the pics from the trip most of the Goliath, the biggest dude I ever pulled out of brush.

First my biggest one landed to date this dude was offshore on some concrete culverts and ate a whole live jack...

Next a couple of my buddies with there first Goliath groupers...

Now my first, not quite as big as the one offhsore but still a beast...

Here is a movie catching my first Goliath. I think I got more excited about catching this fish then most any I have ever caught. I just thought about how to get one so long I could not get over finally bringing one up to the boat.
    First Goliath!!!
Warning this movie contains one adult word that starts with an S and ends with a T.

Action shot of pulling one up along boat for photo session... Notice the bait is about a 2lb+ gafftop catfish... LOL I am still a minner fishermen I just use bigger minners.

Then here are a series of other Florida pics I thought I would share just to keep my rep of posting a slideshow number of pics. lol

I know double and triple... but what do you call this?

    TUN-EE!!

    Purdy...

Another first for me a teenage Tarpon...

This thing was funny... one of those fish that sticks to bigger fish and eats the scraps... a ramora. Thing stuck to the deck with this sucker on its head I could hardly get it off.

Then of course I could not resist sticking it to my hand. lol

    And a snook... aka side-liner.

And it would not be a Fishin' Magician post if I did not end it with a sunset.

Markham...except for getting in the water with those things, you're living a life many fishermen just get to read about and drool a little! Glad to see you're still having a blast!
I think the thing with the bait fish is a sabiki rig isn't it?

Take care and thanks for posting the pics with the updates!

There are two things to aim for in life: First, to get what you want; and after that, to enjoy it. Only the wisest of mankind achieves the second. Author unknown, but I like it!

Wow, awesome post Markham, great pics and video too. You can tell how excited you were when you finally landed it.. I don't know too much about bailing overboard with something big enough to eat you. Thanks for the post/pics/vid and its good to see you are doing well. Let us know when you get that guiding thing going.
You can't fish with a hung line!

Great God Markhan, in the video you look liked you were hooked up to the bumper of a greyhound bus. Thanks for sharing the action with us. Those are some brutes and some beauts. I wouldn't want to fight more than one in a day. Take care my friend and thanks once again for the post and the pictures. Those were some great ones.
