    Talking Oooooh yeah ...

    ... been there, done that (& no t-shirt, either :p )

Was fishing at Herrington Lake, many decades ago, and was idling across the lake from Kennedy's over to Chimney Rock, to take the boat out and head home. I was in a little fiberglass bass boat, that I had back then. It was blowing up a storm, and I was gonna try and get trailered and on the road before it hit. About halfway across, and "BOOM" .... wasn't all that close, either, because I never saw the flash of the lightning, just heard the thunder. Got a little "hair raising" buzz, through the steering wheel. No big jolt, or nothing like a 110V house current shock ... but, more like a "tongue to a 9V battery posts" feeling, in my hands and forearms.

Glad it wasn't any worse .... for either one of us ... Wiskers :p

    .... cp

    Glad you are okay.

Several years ago, there were 4 of us standing in the open on the edge of a swamp under a golf umbrella trying to figure out whether we should brave it for the opener of the September wood duck and teal season. Lightning struck a cypress tree in the water about 50 feet from us. The flash was so bright in the darkness and the thunder so loud that it completely blinded and deafened all of us for what seemed like 5 minutes. It was probably closer to about 45 seconds or so. We all thought that we had been hit and were dead since none of us could see the person in front of them or hear anything.

None of us felt any electricity. It must have all discharged in the water and somehow did not travel the few feet of ground separating us from it.

    Scary, scary stuff.

    Talking Pretty good jolt

Yea, I was out there fool'n with the boat under the carport while it was rain'n & dropped a wrench in my battery compartment. Went in the garage & got a flashlight so I could find the wrench. Bout the time I got back to the boat BOOM & a bright flash. Thought I had stepped on a bad spot in the extention cord that was running to my chargers. Felt like I about 110vt quicky! :D Checked the cord & no bad spot. Had to be the lightening. Bout wet my pants! I think it got Angel (my Lab) too, cause she yepped & ran in the garage & wouldn't come back out. I was in tennis shoes & my feet were soaked. I think it was just a ground strike but it made me see stars. You can bet your best crappie rod I'll keep my fanny in the house next time!

Kinda funny after it happened. Anybody else smell bacon cook'n?

    Default Oh Yeah, Baby

Glad you made it through alright, wiskers. I've gotten it 4 times. It hit a tree about 30 yds. behind me on a backpacking trip at 17. The air was electrified raising the abundant hair on my head and back of my neck. Tree splinters and bark showered down on us and we peed a little. 2 other times it just hit to where you got a slight tingle. The weirdest time was at a family gathering out in the middle of immense corn fields at a farmhouse in Indiana. (It was the in-laws extended family place). It was a clear blue sky day with white fluffy clouds floating by. We were playing volleyball next to the cornfield when out of no where this bolt of lightning came down and hit next to us. You should have been there, it was absolute bedlam, people were screaming, kids were wailing and everyone was hightailing it for the farmhouse. We decided to go home soon after even though it was pretty blue skies out. I finally found out later in life that the lord was sending the lightening bolts as warnings to me that I was not living right but I was too blinded to understand that at the time. Thank God I finally figured it out and asked forgiveness. Well, at any rate, I hope you are aokay. Been doing any good at crappie fishing lately?
