I've though hard about it myself. 3/8 oz. worm weights for bass & jig heads for crappie are what i'm interested in making.
Anyone make their own weights, wondering what lead is per pound.

Unless you're making "split-shot" sinkers, you don't really need "soft lead". I used wheel weight lead, and cut off pieces of lead pipe and melted them down to make jigheads (back when). I also made split shot sinkers, but you needed a pair of pliers to open/close them (you couldn't do it with your hand )
I make my own decoy anchors and jigheads often, eBay seems to be the most competitive for the amounts that I buy, maybe 25 lbs a year. I don’t know if I’ve ever saved a lot of money but it’s cool catching them on something you made yourself.
