Are there any plans for a small friendly tournament at this years shindig?
Haven’t heard of any. Would you like to get involved? You can’t bring the shock boat.

Haha, no worries. Our nets work much better than the shock boat for crappie anyway.
Doesn't have to be part of the shindig, but I would be interested in getting my hands on some larger crappie during late october/early november. Trapnets tend to be biased towards smaller fish so we like to supplement with some larger fish caught from other sources to get a better estimate of the growth patterns. I know a few years ago we did that at the shindig fruit jar tournament so I thought I'd check to see if it was happening again.

Several of us will be fishing the days prior to the Shindig and that Saturday. How do the fish need to be kept and can you be reached by your cell phone? I want to invite the KY F&W crew to the meal and to talk afterwards about the Asian carp program and the status of KY and Barkley lakes.

Appreciate the invite, and we would be happy to provide a brief update on the carp program and the crappie outlook for Kentucky and Barkley Lakes. We will probably skip the formal powerpoint presentation this year and keep it shorter and more informal. I am fully expecting some tough questions about livescope, so we will attempt to answer whatever questions anyone has.
As for the fish, they can be frozen, kept in the fridge, or simply kept on ice (if its only going to be a few days). We would need 4 things (1) the location, just listing the embayment is specific enough but this would need to be recorded for each batch of fish, for example you might include a small note simply saying "Blood River" in a ziplock bag which is kept in a trash bag with the fish carcasses from that location, (2) the species, so leaving at least one side of the skin or the dorsal spines attached, (3) the total length, so the tail must still be attached, (4) the fishes head, since that is where the otoliths are located.
Alternatively, if no one wants to mess with storing the fish carcasses until we show up on saturday, then we can come and pick them up from lynnhurst each day. If thats the case, my work cell is 270 206 2334, so you can send me a text letting me know you have some fish for us.
