Caught and released well over 50 rainbows with my dad and good buddy. Quite a few people on the river but it’s the holiday and we expected. Nowhere anything like the gauntlet on the other side of the dam I imagine. Enjoyed the sun and low humidity weather and got to spend it with friends and family like I’m sure most of you all did yesterday. It ain’t Crappie but it’s Kentucky and it’s beautiful..have a good weekend guys.

Caught some nice "bows" below the dam, but never fished that far up the lake (assuming you are fishing above the dam )

Looks like a large time had by all ... congrats !! Pooch seems impressed with your catches, too.

    Thanks for the report/pics !!

I was below the dam, I’ve been fishing it for years. I always launch @ Helms landing or the low key Ray Mann rd ramp just about a mile from the Kendall launch. Anytime me and dad get together we always have a hoot for sure.

Yeah, we launched at Kendall. Ran the boats up to the dam & let the flow takes us downriver, as we bounced Kastmaster spoons off the bottom along the way. You had to leave the baitcast reel on freespool and the big motor running, so when you got hung in the rocks you could just take your thumb off the spool & go back to the console and motor back above where you were hung and try and get your bait loose. Weren't no trolling motor gonna pull ya back in that current. (mind you, this was back in the late 1970's)

Is it difficult to launc at those 2 ramps? I have a 18 flat bottom G3 and wanted to try to launch some where else than Kendal

Both ramps are good best i remember. It cost launch fee to put in at kendal, Ray Mann rd ramp used to be free. But both are good.

You need to get the TVa app and check the wolf creek outflow. If you are not familiar with that river I would not recommend an 18 footer unless they are running at least one generator ( still a serious chore if you don’t know the channel). Helms is doable but you need to get there early before the river drops too much. If they aren’t generating you may not get it back out. 3500 cfs + is a good day to be on a big boat. Less than that bring another prop.
