More in northern FL, but I have fished Talquin many times. Heck of a black crappie lake.

My wife and I want to become snowbirds soon. Looking to buy a place near the best crappie fishing in central or southern Florida. I have never set a foot in Florida. I know nothing about it other than it is usually warmer there during our three bad winter months. Dec, Jan and February.
Second question is it better to buy or rent property there for a stay of 3 or for months?

Can't beat the lakes along the st. John's river system. Great crappie fishing. Just have to find something that won't flood IMHO.
My suggestion would be to rent something on your first visit and get to know the areas. It's a huge state. A lot to take in.

Definitely rent until you have had a chance to take it all in. A man could drive a car on the interstates, and not go from one end to the other in a day. More and more people are moving down here. I live near Gainesville and it is very nice and all the lakes have crappie.
Maybe they will bite this one……ugglyotter LIKED above post
Quailtail, I've heard Winterhaven is a good snowbird nesting area. I lived in Brandon FL for three years in the past. I've fished Lake Jackson, near Sebring FL. You can't go wrong with Lake Ocochobee either, especially with those FL Hybrid Lunkers they have swimming around.
