A certain well known company made a balsawood lure that I had utmost confidence in. The company changed ownership a couple of times, each one altering the lure and now it is a cheap imitation, made of plastic or acrylic?, and a waste of time to drag through the water. I can understand the company not making the lure a high priority as it is hard to cast and difficult to adjust to run true. I used it for trolling and back in the day. it would fill up the livewell with crappie, walleye , bass, catfish. stripers, etc. It had a broad bill, trolled around 15 feet deep with 125 feet of line out and displaced a lot of water. A hard wobble is the only way i can describe it. The action wasn't quick and fast but wide and hard.

So I'm wondering if I can have the old lure duplicated by a lure maker? Are lures patented? What are my options? And if it is legal, who could do it?

Thanks in advance
