I’ve done it over the years and caught a few big crappie but most I’ve caught were dinks and tons of yellow stripes.

Hey folks. Just wondered if any of you do any serious crappie fishing at night on Kentucky Lake? I fished a lot at night when I lived on Lake Cumberland and caught a lot of crappie. I've tried it here in years past on KY Lake a few times without much luck, but after the success I had on Cumberland I learned a lot about night fishing and now want to get serious about it here on KY Lake. I've done it enough over the years to know that crappie can be caught here at night, but I never really put any serious effort into it, especially since I'm retired. Want to get away from these hot days and all the boat traffic. I was gone from Kentucky Lake for seven years and in that time it seems the boat traffic has increased dramatically, especially the "wake" boats which I despise. So....are there any serious night fishermen out there on the big water? Not wanting your spots. Just want to talk with you about how you make night-fishing work here.

See the post by HitTheChicka “No electronics needed.” It’s primarily about night fishing and also refers to an old post that targets your subject.

I saw that post and have read "Night Stalking Tactcs" by Rango from S.C. a few years ago. I've done a ton of night fishing on Lake Cumberland, Dale Hollow, and Green River lakes with good success. Also used to night fish for crappie on Reelfoot Lake years ago. I'm about to begin aome serious night fishing here on KY Lake and just wondered if anyone was doing so with any success.
I can do pretty well with the bass night fishing on KY Lake, but I have yet to catch a crappie at night on KY Lake. I've tried around the bridge in Jonathan Creek with green lights and only caught gar.....have tried the mouth of Jonathan Creek along the drops with green lights, and only caught gar. I can get a shad swirl going in less than 5 minutes with the green lights pretty well anywhere on the lake, I just can't seem to get a crappie swirl going.
I just for once would like to hear of someone who can catch crappie at night on KY Lake, just to give me an idea of where to look, because I am clueless. I can find bass easily, and gar apparently too quite easily, but I don't know what the secret is to crappie at night on KY Lake.

Artcarney_ agr. I tried to PM you but it said your inbox was full and you can't receive any more messages till you clear some room.
Keep us posted. I have been wanting to try night fishing for crappie since it’s too hot during the day and have the same issue with all the pleasure boaters. My boat stays parked from Memorial Day through Labor Day. That’s too long of a time for me not to fish!

Although I have never tried night time crappie fishing, I have caught a few stragglers
under Ky Lake Hwy 68 bridge while stripe fishing. I always thought it was unusual that I never
heard of any interest in night time crappie fishing here. It seemed to be pretty big in TN
under the bridges at night at the time. I cant figure what the common denominator would be
for crappie to be under a TN bridge at night and not in KY. ANY IDEAS???? LDS
