You don’t have to have trailer tags in Ky but other states do require trailer tags so if you travel in those states you may get a ticket.
    Good luck.Boat Registration Extension

YOU DON'T need license tags for boat trailers in KY.

My current boat was originally bought in Tenn. (no tag required there, either) but the original owner did register the trailer. When my buddy bought it from the original owner & transferred the title to KY, he registered the trailer and got a license for it. When I bought it from him I just left it that way. I get the trailer reg/tax form in the mail about a month before I get the one for the boat.

Last year I went to the County Clerk's office to get the two combined .... and the clerk assured me that it was a done deal. Well, it ain't ... I got separate reg/tax forms again this year.

The same thing happened to me Pappy on a new trailer, it took me two years to get it corrected. So now I don’t get a notice for the trailer at all, just the boat.

To all, I moved back here from SC 6 years ago. I had a 'Title' and registration from SC for my Boat, my Motor, and my Trailer. They taxed me on all 3 of these. I went in to register this stuff at KY. Looks like if you have a boat and motor, it's on one registration(as I remember from living here earlier). I made the mistake of showing my 'Trailer' registration from SC when I went in to register my stuff. My SC valuation for my trailer was about $2000. They hit me up with a pretty good tax for my trailer(they gave me a plate for my trailer). I found out, this is not required if I DO NOT fish in a State that requires Trailer registration. So, last year, I turned in my plate for the trailer, and eliminated my 'Extra' tax on my trailer, ( no new plate and taxes). I will just take the risk if I fish in another state that requires a tag for the fishing boat trailer.

Yeah ... I don't see how a state that requires THEIR citizens to tag their boat trailer to require out of state boat trailers be tagged, when those out of state trailers are not required to be tagged in their home state.
I mean, all but 19 states require vehicles have a plate on the front and back, but you don't hear about people getting ticketed for only having a license plate on the back when they're in those other 31 states.

I mean, I still have my trailer license plate ... but I took it off when I put the retractable tie downs on my trailer. Guess I'll just not spend my money in those states that would ticket me for not having trailer plates.
