    Default thinking about trolling cranks

When you are pushing those $6 Picos with ounces of lead 4' in front of them and you hang that baby up in a brush pile, how do you get it out? I have a bait knocker that has served me well for 40 years, but it won't be any good with that weight up front.

    Just wondering.

    Most times you don't.
But, brushpiles aren't the only thing that can/will take a crank away from you. There are slimy whiskered fish, toothy fish, and even large trash fish that can take a crank home with them.

There is a way to get your crank back (but not the treble hooks) .... but, that $6.00 crank is going to cost you a few bucks more. You could use Ultimate Luresaver Titanium Split Rings, if you can find them.

Just get used to the idea, that you need Pico on speed dial!
As CP stated everything wants your picos!

Navionics and Lake Master cards will also take your money. They will tell you the water is twenty foot deep, and you find it to be five. Like my dad once told me, When your able to stand on a bridge and throw hundred dollar bills in the lake, only then will you be ready to buy a boat.

I have a plug knocker that's about 40 some years old, and has saved many a crank (single pole casting/trolling) :

.... but, I wouldn't expect it to work with a 2oz trolling weight (torpedo shaped). Now .... were I "Pulling" cranks (no added weights), then it might be effective. But, I'd still probably reel in all the other cranks before trying to free the snagged one.

I like whiskers fish too. I might try trolling crappie jigs on one side of the boat and catfish bait on the other side.

That Sexy Shad color is like a catfish magnet. I'm just about ready to quit using it, I've caught one crappie on it and no telling how many catfish.

I pull with 12 lb big game line and still lose about 30 to 40 cranks a year.
