    Default Lake Barkley

Ran into a guy on Wilson Lake in Alabama today that was down from Kentucky bass fishing. We talked a bit and he said let me some of them shell crackers. So I showed him a few and he said you should come to Barkley. Can anybody recommend cheap/rustic/safe accommodations close to a good ramp. Would love to come catch some of them monsters.

I heard Hillmans ferry campground in lbl is/has put in some cabins. That would be an excellent location for both lakes as 6 or 7 ramps are within minutes.

I stayed in a cabin at Sportsmans lodge, it was rustic and slept just fine!

Thanks for the help. Our crappie trip got cancelled this year because of high water and we're looking for something different.

That's too close to home. Looking for a change of scenery.

If your looking for some giants I’d personally go south ! I’m sure they have some gooderns in Ky and they are some fine folks up their also ! but you ought to look up lake Talquin or St. John’s River ! If you can’t go all the way to California

The shellcracker fishing isn't as good as it used to be, once the grass started to decline after '08 the shellcracker population seems to have slowly gone down. They are still in there, but not like they used to be. I always had better luck on Kentucky Lake, about the TN line and on south. The biologists that run the shocking boats say north Barkley is really good for shellcracker but I haven't ever found them there like I have on south KY.

Buchannon Resort, Leatherwood, Piney Campground, and Lakeview are all on south KY Lake close to the TN line.
