Boat reccomendations
Hello. If this is in the wrong forum i apologize. I am looking for a new boat. I have owned a 1984 Alumacraft Mv angler for over 20 years. I am now wanting to upgrade to a wider boat. (nicely used) I am a big guy. 6' 5" 275 and am pushing 50. My boat has just become too unstable for me now. It's not that wide and rocks and rolls with 2 people in it. I am looking at v bottom boats because the pedestal seats at the driver console look like they would be alot more comfortable to sit in while riding. I am currently jammed up behind mine now with one leg kicked out on the side. I am only interested in aluminum and have been looking at the likes of lund, Alumacraft, Tracker pro guide v and even targas. I also would like to be able to fish 3 somewhat comfortably when needed. Do any of you guys who have those types of boats have any input? I also am curious how hard it is to get back in them from shore. Thx

I'd look at the specs and see if that was the max HP for the boat's length. Tracker is infamous for "deals" where the price is low(er) because the motor in the deal is less than the max rating.

Mine has a 75 and with 4 guys it's a little bit of a chore to get up on plane. 90 would be my minimum I would think.

Luvmyhobies, I currently have a Lowe's Stryker(semi-V), 16ft which looks like something like you now have. I only have a 40HP 4 stroke, Mercury 'Big foot'. It gets on plane very quickly with me and another fisherman, and is a little wider than most aluminum boats, runs about 25-30 mph. It will take some rough water, but nothing over 2 feet waves comfortably. I guess if you have 'room' problems at the console, you need to go to a 'V' bottom boat. Very few of the 16ft type aluminum semi V or flat bottom boats have much room at the console. The V bottom boats usually have more room at the console, but unless you get a big V bottom boat, the front end is not good for room to fish. Need to get a 17-18 ft. V bottom to have enough room at the front (just my opinion only).

For a Aluminum boat... wide at the front for two side by side fishing and room at the console...It will be hard to beat a SeaArk or a WarEagle. Good rule of thumb is...Always run the Max HP motor the boat is rated for.

Given your situation, I think you would be a lot happier in a center console boat or maybe even a pontoon.
That 2016 Excel Bay Pro 203 of M R Dux is a heck of a rig. For it to be fully rigged and ready to go with all the crappie rod holders, trolling motor, batteries, depth finders, seats, etc., that's a huge selling point. 68" wide across the bottom, 94" across the top.
I've always liked the 2072 (20 ft length, 72" bottom width) center console models from SeaArk, War Eagle, and G3, but man the selling price on those big roomy 20 ft fishing pontoons are hard to ignore too.
I've had one of those Lund style boats before, the only thing I didn't like about it was that it seemed to rock side to side a little more with that hull style and not much width in the water at the bow. You have a tradeoff with them in that you get through rougher water better, but the side to side rocking while fishing is a little more noticeable. Just my experience, others' experiences may vary.
