I was thinking about that the other day. How small do they make them? Would they work on yo-yo’s? I’ve never used yo-yo’s before so I don’t even know if they’d be necessary

I love them for jugging or lines for catfish. The fish just hook themselves in the side of the mouth. Seems like crappie would too.
Great for grandkids to use.

I feel like they wouldn't work the same with a jighead on there, but maybe I'm wrong.
I tried them 4-5 years ago. Got the smallest wire hooks in #1 I could find. Fished them with straight minnows. Did not like them. Seems with the circle hook they worked like hey were supposed to, but when hooking a crappie in the mouth seems it came to the very edge of their upper lip before hook point dug in. Even when they went towards the corner every one would be hung by just a tiny tab of skin and lost several before I could net them. Also tried the small shank walley live bait rig hooks with just about the same results. Now all I use is the eagle claw lil nasty Aberdeen hooks. Much better hook up ratio and rarely lose a fish once hooked.

On a jig you would want the hook to stick the fish in the roof of the mouth, not "slide" forward to the lip or corner of the mouth. Circle hooks are not intended for rod jerk hooksets, but simply "pulling" forward on the line (or simply reeling) to bring the hook point into contact with the fish. A circle hook has a hook point that is bent inwards towards the shank, which is contrary to what you would want on a jig because it wouldn't engage with the fish's mouth until it came to a lip or corner ... and then there's the possibility that the lead head of the jig would interfere with the hook sticking into the fish's mouth.
I wonder if the type of knot and the direction it is tied is a factor.
While I don't think the "circle hook" idea is all that for jigs, one other option (similar) for jig hooks is the "kahle" hook.
I remember from many decades ago, my buddy using a 1/8oz jig with a kahle hook when we were fishing jig/minnow for Smallmouth Bass down in Tenn. at Watts Bar Lake. I remember thinking "what a strange looking jig/hook" ... compared to my Oldham's weedless Crappie jig. Even though his jig was not weedless, he didn't seem to be getting hung up any more often than I was, and was catching fish at the same rate as I was, even though using a jig twice the weight.
Nowadays there are many mfg's using kahle hooks in their jigs, and I have little doubt they'll catch fish !!
