Haven't been there in quite a while, but this is what I know :
Lake is currently at SUMMER Pool & falling pretty fast (like ~ 1ft/day). If they keep it draining at that rate, it will be at Winter Pool by Sunday.
When I use to fish it (from the bank) in Dec/Jan/Feb ... I always found them to be hanging out over deadfall trees that were on steep banks, but would usually be suspended about 8ft deep & about midways of the length of the tree. Now that was a long time ago, and I only knew of 2 trees that met those conditions ... both of which are long since gone from their previous locations. One was to the right of the Settler's ramp, and the other was just downstream of the Chowning ramp. That was back when I was using hollow tube jigs (blu/char) on 1/16oz jigheads .... and I saw no real difference in the "thump" than what I'd experienced during the warmer months.
Even back before then, when we went there in Nov., we'd tie off to standing timber in 30fow & fish with minnows at about 8-12ft deep.
No guarantees, but with those experiences in mind .... I'd start checking out these types of spots with my electronics, and keep my bait presentations in the 5-15ft depth range.
