Looking for info on the crappie fishing there. We went there this week on a smallmouth fishing trip, it was a beautiful lake and was curious about the crappie fishing. Thanks and God Bless

I've only fished Laurel a few times .... Bass & Trout. I know there's Crappie in there, but I don't think it's a prime lake for catching them. In fact, here's all the KDFWR Fishing Forecast for 2018 had to say : "Low density population. Upper Laurel River Arm near city dam is the best area."
Never fished it. But, since your were there, how was the smallmouth fishing?

It was a nice trip, we caught several smallmouth, spots and largemouths. Caught them all about 25 feet deep on live chubs. My son pretty much laid it on us, he caught the most and the biggest, he was happy lol. His first time beating Dad bass fishing.

Congrats on the great trip! I came up from Florida while my wife was attending a meeting before Thanksgiving and fished Laurel. It rained for 4 days out of 5 and on the 5th day it was 32 F and raining/snow. I fished in my boat on the 5th day and caught 2 small bass, would have loved the stringer you and your son had. Hope to come back and fish Laurel and Cumberland when it gets warmer. Thanks for the pictures.
Sorry for the late reply and nice catch! I did fish the area 'Near City Dam' in May for Bluegill. I guess this would be the upper end of the lake. Several bays have standing timber and we caught several small to decent Crappie fishing for Bluegill with waxworms. (Didn't have a jig or minnow in the boat) Bluegill fishing was good as far as catching, but just mostly small 4-6 inch fish. Took a while to go through a pile of small fish to get a decent mess So, will go back this spring with some jigs and minnows in the same area to see if we can get some Crappie this coming year.
