Haven't posted a report in a long time and haven't spent any time at all on Kentucky for several years. What few times I have been on KY in the out of the way areas I prefer, it hasn't been productive. Decided this morning to swallow my pride and hit up what I consider one of the easier areas on the twins to find a few fish. Figuring if I couldn't find some there, then I was really out of touch and beyond hope. Turned out to be a good move, lots of hungry fish around wood in 13-17ft of water. Was able to catch 20 pretty easy and left plenty of time to poke around more distant areas hunting other productive areas. Beautiful day to be out. Fish looked ok to me, Kentucky isn't quite dead yet.

Nice catch Austin. Bet I know who is going to eat them!

I am sure there are probably some schools up a lot shallower, at least at times but I don't ever chase those fish. Like everything in life and fishing there are tradeoffs. By not chasing active schools up shallow I forgo some fast action at times but gain some consistency in most cases by focusing on deeper water. In weather patterns like we have been having with cold fronts every few days I have found the closest deep water adjacent to flats to normally hold some fish.
But if your not catching them I wouldn't get discouraged. While no doubt the Asian carp are a problem that needs to be addressed, the biggest factor to me is several missing year classes. And I can't say for certain the carp weren't a factor in that, don't think anyone really knows that yet. But all that aside it's always going to be a little tougher to find fish in this scenario, there just aren't as many to be found. Fish also move a lot chasing bait this time of year making things a little tricky at times. If you are persistent and have a positive outlook though, good fishing can still be found in these lakes.

As Austin stated about these cold fronts, fish are going to move in the depth range and depth of the water column that makes them comfortable right then. Also, they will be a little deeper than the bait fish schools. Don't be afraid to use the tools you have to find the fish, then go to work on them.
