BTW, we also had a nice bass,a big white catfish, and a couple unidentifiable pigs that went their own way after serious fights.

I got a call a couple weeks back from a guy from central Ky. He was hot to trot to learn HOW to catch crappie on cranks. We sat today as the day.
We met shortly after 5 at the Barkley ramp and eased out into the twilight. As the Helix12 lit the whole boat, I started my presentation on what I was looking for and why. As daylight took over, we eased out to the mouth of the creek and I began to show them how I sat my rods up and why.
We hit the channel tops and bottoms, flats, humps, you name it with zero luck. A change of scenery was called for.
New location yielded great looking screens on the Helix with fish exactly where I expected them to be. They had other ideas. Not even a yellow to our credit. Catfish were everywhere but they were very small channels so they got unceremoniously slung off the Picos with the pliers.
There was zero current so we spent little time hitting spots before moving.
Finally we found an area that held some crappie but they needed a kick in the butt to bite. One here. One there. My saving grace was the fact the clients had said if they caught just a couple, they’d be happy.
They ended up happy!! 8 nice keeper crappie with a couple in 15” range, a 3 pound bass and 4 pound white catfish.
Slow day with hundreds of answered questions.

I have my "seminar" set up for late this week with MRDUX. It too will be on Barkley. Fish or no fish, to be educated by a gentleman that has MANY more successful days on the water than I ever have is what I am after. Fish are just icing on the cake.
