    Default Summer crappie question

Not the most experienced crappie fisherman but I sure do love doing it and I am learning more and more everyday. I fish a pond for crappie that is about 15 foot deep with no visible structure or docks. Everything ive read on catching summer crappie says fish structure and docks. That really isn't an option. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated on how to fish this pond for summer crappie.

I would probably fish it the same way I do a lake : Casting a Road Runner or a weedless jighead/plastics. With the Road Runner I can cover the top half of the water column, then use the jig/plastics to cover the bottom half & any cover present.

Not knowing how big this "pond" is, casting those baits may not get me to the deeper areas of the pond ... so, there's always the weighted float/jig or weighted float/minnow rigs that might work. A longer rod & larger reel spool with lite line (4-6# test) can also help with casting distance.

I would also suggest a good spraying of bug repellent (with high DEET content) on your clothing, as the ticks are especially bad this year. Also a good idea if you're a chigger magnet, like I am !!

Drop a 24 foot pontoon in and start crankin!!! Actually, I would cast as Pappy said But also drop minnows in shallow with a slip bobber and keep going deeper until you find them.
