School is out for the year so our lives have gotten ALOT less crazy. Both Bubba and Sissy made A-B honor roll all year so we asked them what they wanted to do this weekend. Well, both agreed on fishing (imagine that!!).
Today started out rainy with scattered storms, so we cleaned house and got the grass cut in between rain showers. I watched the radar all day and saw the last shower was gonna pass thru at about 2 pm, so I loaded up the boat as it got done raining and we headed towards our favorite fishing hole.
It turned into a beautiful evening with partly cloudy skies and light wind. I went with the intention of long lining but I bought minnows too, so I started our evening spider rigging. Our first spot wasn't on fire, but did produce a couple keepers amongst a lot of dinks. Sissy was catching two at once at one point.
After that spot played out, I decided to try long lining. I had two 12' poles in the middle with Capps & Coleman minnow rigs, two 12' poles straight out the sides with jigs, and two 6'6" poles inside them with jigs. (Kind of a spider rig/long line hybrid setup) I caught a ton of dinks this way, but no keepers.
I had several minnows left, so I decided to go back to plan A and spider rig at a similar place as my first spot. I couldn't get my poles out fast enough to keep up with the fish. The bite was HOT right at dusk. I spider rigged while the kids casted jigs with Momma's help. All my keepers came from this pattern.
I had to stop at one point cause of all the commotion in the back. Bubba had hooked a monster fish I was hoping like crazy it was a catfish, but it turned out to be this imposter!!
Oh well, he still had a blast fighting it on a crappie pole!
We ended the evening with 8 keepers, with two craaps approaching 12".
We had a beautiful evening with our children and made some awesome memories!!!
