    Default Long lining Ky lakes

Hello to everyone. Looking for some advice. We have been Ky lake regulars for the past few years on our annual spring trip in late March (missed last year). We have been hearing not great reports from friends about the lack of growth of the crappie.......not trying to get into a debate on the Asian Carp Possible Affect, but we are looking at either Green River Lake or Cave Run (or stay at Ky lake and chance it). We do like to troll, but will do what is needed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

There are still plenty of good crappie in KY Lake. Many of us are concerned about the perceived lack of shad/baitfish last fall in areas we were fishing. Others were seeing good numbers of baitfish. Last April we hammered crappie on Green River Lake pulling crankbaits but in 2 days of fishing for 2 boats, we only saw 1 crappie over 14" out of a couple hundred caught. Last year my clients caught dozens of crappie over 15" on KY Lake. I think we are in a down-turn with an up-turn in our near future from all the reported crappie just under 10 inches.

mrdux trumps anything I say by 10X, that said, my answer would be it depends. If you want to visit, and fish the same area and not explore a little, you might see too many minus 10" fish. I don't get locked in to fishing just one area, my range is north to Kentucky line, south to Danville, plus here on West Sandy, and Big Sandy. Especially trolling, we see a few areas of minus 10" fish, so we search until we find keepers. Also we live here, catching a "limit" for us may be enough for dinner, so we throw back a lot.
