    Default Snakebit? I can’t catch a break

In mid December I made a bad move with a new German bird beak knife when working on a deer skull. A trip to the ER and 5 stitches got me back to work. Name: IMG_1518140714.206064.jpg

With all the ice and bad weather, my boat hasn’t been on the lake to wet a hook since late Dec. I’ve got a lot of work done including tying sauger and crappie/catfish rigs.

Things were going good till Sunday when I skipped going to church with my wife to work on a deer. That didn’t end well when I decided to run a Phillips screwdriver bit on my drill almost completely thru my left index finger. Ouchhhh!!Name: IMG_1518141040.342142.jpg

Well, the fun never ends and today while I was thinning a whitetail cape on a fleshing wheel, I ran my same left thumb into the cutting edge and ended up with this when I got to the restroom. Name: IMG_1518141178.464918.jpg

Luckily the wound is small and I bleed really bad. A good washing and bandaging and I am back at it. Bad thing was just as I was starting to clean up my thumb, my front door opened and my wonderful Mom walked in. Her question was the same one I’ve heard all my life “What have you done this time?” She then starting cleaning up the sink and the impressive blood trail I had left from 2/3 way to back of the shop.

Moms will be Moms and I’m thankful every day to have both my parents. They are both past 80 and still find time to look after their oldest of 2 sons.

Dang brother! If you ain't careful, at this rate its gonna take you both hands to hold up enough fingers to order three beers!

I was getting the hide out from around the pedicle on a skull once and gashed the tip of my thumb with a razor knife. Got the bleeding stopped and tried to close it with glue and steri strips. Kept busting open so after a couple days I decided to sew it myself. I was a firefighter/EMT at the time so I knew the knot. No biggie. The skin at the edge of the wound had began to harden and die so it wasn't real painful. Tried to get my wife to help me and cut the thread after each knot but she was having none of my shenannigans. Finally got my 5 year old daughter to get her little kindergarten scissors and cut for me. 5 stitches later all was good!

Geez Doug......I bet your Mom had her hands on her hips when she asked that question...I get it from my wife quite often. I call it the teapot pose, she just shakes her head and walks away...Ha
