I have voiced my opinion and respect every one elses opinion on this matter, Crappie fishing has been my passion for 20 years, I totaly understand that the fishery cycles, but in my opinion the fishing pressure on crappie today is much greater than it was 5 years ago. At one time i could go to the ramp in january and might be 2 trucks at the ramp all day, now i get there an hour before daylight to get a parking place, Im not complaining about this but trying to show that the pressure is a lot greater but there is no changes to compensate for this. I guess my definition of sucessful crappie fishing is different than some other people. I will continue going to ky lake to put some 10 to 11 inch fish in the freezer to eat but will go south every chance i get to get into some really successful crappie fishing!

Guess I am on the wrong side of this one, I am happy with Kentucky/Barkley as they are. I have friends and family that enjoy eating 10.25-11" fish. I also don't see anything out of line with good fish according to the year class strength. We have some great big fish years to look forward to coming up just like we have had some great big fish years in the not so recent past. Look at the tournament weights from the years following the last great boom like we are in now. I will save you some time, they were fantastic. We aren't in Mississippi and you can't make it so no matter how much you wish it.

I for one hope our biologists continue to manage our fisheries based on sound science not the emotional swings of fisherman trying to find fish or wishing our fish grew like they did in a different area of the country. Mean absolutely no disrespect to any of you on the other side, I know and like several of you, just come down on the other side of this.

Just curious, which one would actually be harder on fish numbers and size a guy that fishes only 6 or 8 times a yr and takes more than his limit 50% of the time he fished those 6 or 8 times, or a guy that fishes all yr long and takes his limit 50 % of the times he fishes all yr Long? Now don't get me wrong I don't agree with anybody taking one fish over there limit and I also don't understand why a guy that fishes all yr long wants to fill the freezer with fillets.

I was really going to try to stay out of this thread after I said my piece the first time and this may be an innocent question but I won't stand by and let you lump guys like me who follow the laws with poachers just because you don't understand it. I fish all year and would be more like 90 percent on catching limits on years with good fish numbers like this year and you won't get any apologies from me. My freezer isn't anywhere near full. I choose to accept proven science over speculation and would just assume my friends and family be able to eat legally caught fish as they die of old age and go to waste.

My question was not criticizing anyone the "law breaker" or the " all yr fisherman" I was just actually asking a simple question on which one ppl thought hurt the population the most. With that being said I don't like it at all when ppl go fishing get a limit go drop them off then get another and it really bothers me to have to sit and listen to them brag about it but I know for a fact the few ppl I know who does this ( spring time only fishermen) still do not catch as many as I do with me fishing most of the yr. so in regards to my comment I'm really saying I don't see that there doing any more danger than a lot of us leagal takers and with that being said I'm with you on science I'm letting the ones with that job do that part and I'm just going to fish. By the way I'm not trying to Lump anyone and I understand everything I have read as I see it.

Also absolutely did not intend to imply that you did not comprehend what you were reading, just that you might not understand my why I or someone else might keep limits of fish year around.

No harm was taken from either of your statements.

What I want to know is the data behind raising the size limit on Taylorsville to 10" ... since the last few 9-10" fish I've caught from there were thin. When cleaned, they virtually had no stomachs to speak of ... and actually their egg sacs were larger than their stomachs, and they were only about a half inch long.

I remember the days when you could read a newspaper through most of the Crappie at Taylorsville, and you rarely caught a keeper ... even with a 9" size limit. And since the creel limit is 15/day on this lake, and has been forever, how is the population being reduced to the point where the size limit would help ??

Is the new 20 fish limit being enacted due to lobbying from a certain group or from research indicating that it is needed? I fish Nolin, Barren and Rough and the population of keeper size crappie seem to be doing quite well and have been for several years now. I subscribe to the " If its' not broke, dont' fix it" camp. If anything it seems a 10" size limit would be enacted.
