    Default Barkley 6/27/17

Another beautiful morning on Barkley, almost too pretty. With almost no wind, blue skies, and very little current I almost waited until tomorrow. But I couldn't stand waiting another day to get back out and figured I could probably find some willing to play even if it wasn't ideal. Turned out to be nothing to worry about, fish were very cooperative. Had 20 flopping around in the box before most of the joy riders were out. Some very nice fish today although the picture doesn't really do them justice. June is always one of my favorite months to fish if I have time to get out and this year has been nothing short of outstanding.

    Great catch Austin.

Are you finding your larger fish to be really skinny, even to the point of seriously poor appearing? We've been catching some whites up to 16" that weigh considerably less than I would expect they should.

Not really any more than normal, a few here and there like that one on the top left that are kind of poor but nothing different from years past. I have wondered if Paul and company check periodically weight vs. length and track it. I guess I could do it but really need fork over the cash for a quality scale, need to do that anyway.

Great job as always Austin. I haven't noticed them being skinny either, but I don't seem to catch a lot of bigger ones usually.

Nice fish and I bet it was a fantastic morning with the cooler temps. In Cincy with 3 grandkids. Parents gone to France for their 10th anniversary. 5 more days!

Mind telling us if you were pulling, trolling, or single pole fishing?

I was vertical jigging wood, haven't owned a set of rod holders in years.

Here is a DI screen capture from yesterday that I grabbed for a friend. This was after I had caught a few and got them wound up, they weren't showing when I first pulled up on the spot. They were there the whole time just holding tight at first. Good 2d is actually your best friend in this scenario, sometimes the logs/stumps will look fuzzy if they are tight but there. I am not going to get into "brand x would have seen them all before I ever put the trolling motor down thing" or any big electronics debates. If that works for you in the real world, great, this post isn't for you. Just food for thought, I see this scenario alot and have been getting questions about finding fish this time of year.
