    Default What kind of fish is this?


    I was at a farm pond today that is stocked with crappie and bluegill. the fish in the middle is a fish I have never caught before. It had the bluegill "ears" and a crappie like body. The picture doesn't do its size justice, it was about a 10 inch fish.The red around the gills was blood not coloring. What kind of fish is the one in he middle?

    I think they are male and female gills.

    not sure, it has a total different body shape then the other bluegills.

    dang you found out before I got to guess, but I was going to say red ear = shell cracker myself. It's something about that long gill flap that stands out from the gill
