    Default Any tips for Taylorsville?

Headed there in the morning for first time for crappie and wondering if it was worth bringing the spider rigging gear or just fish brush piles. Anybody got anything? Thanks

I'm planning on making a trip there this year as my uncle only lives a couple miles from the lake so I'd be interested to hear the answers too

With the lake @ 1.7ft above Summer Pool and rising, after the rains, the lake will likely be murky and probably a bit trashy. That probably won't slow down the weekend boat traffic, but it may make fishing a bit on the touchy side. By that I mean ... the fish may be "wanting" to come shallow with the rising water, but the traffic, water temps & conditions, and the windy conditions forecast might put them down a little deeper than they'd normally be under better conditions.

I would never leave my long rods at home, when going to Taylorsville, even if I had no initial plans to use them. I'm primarily a jig casting angler, especially at Taylorsville, but there are times when conditions can cause the fish to be more scattered than normal ... and those times are when the long poles & various trolling methods can make the trip more successful.

If you do go, I hope you will consider posting a report on how you did. General info is fine ... no need for specific spots or areas to be mentioned. Water temps & clarity, methods used, bait colors (if you care to mention) and numbers/size of fish caught would be most appreciated, but not necessary. I'm asking because I may be going there in a couple of days, myself, for my first trip of 2017 !!

Pictures are always great ... but, either take them at home or use the sky or bottom of the boat as the background, so as to not give away the location you were catching them. Banks are easily recognized by those that fish there regularly !!

And if cell phone pics are taken ... hold the top of the phone lengthwise to your right when taking the pics, so they will appear "upright" when downloaded to this site. It's not your phone that's at fault, it's the software of this site that does not recognize the position of the photo & tries to correct it into "landscape" mode by turning it a quarter turn to the left (which gives you a pic laying sideways, and possibly stretched, when posted).

Just got home from taylorsville. Ended up bringing 30 back with my dad since it's the only time I'll probably get to crappie fish this spring due to work. Only kept fish that were 9 3/4 or better to be on safe side but nearly all were at least 10". Caught close to 75 if not more total today but all we did was fish several pockets off the main lake. When we caught one, we'd catch 6 or 7 within the same spot. Casting jigs and slow retrieving. First time fishing for crappie there and I'll definitely make it a every spring thing for a day trip. Had a blast.
