    Exclamation Reminder...

Just a reminder to check your trailer bearings and tire pressure. Re-packed bearings today and had water in one hub. Heading to KY Lake (3 hour drive) late this month and hoping to avoid a breakdown.

Don't forget to check the pressure in the spare and also make sure you have a lug wrench that will fit the boat trailer.

I bought my Horizon 1860 new with a Bear trailer in 2000. I kept the grease checked in my wheels but since I live 8 miles from KY Lake and do pretty much all my fishing within a few miles of the house, I never took the hubs off. When I started thinking about a new boat a couple years ago, I decided one Sunday afternoon to pull the hubs and replace all bearings, races and seals. One wheel was a dream. No issues at all. When I started on wheel number 2, I found the hub nut had been cross-threaded at the factory 15 years earlier. It had not caused any problems till I tried to get the nut off. The threads were pretty bad after I used a pipe wrench to get the nut off. The thread was a 1" shaft. Ever tried to find a 1" fine thread die on a Sunday afternoon? I would have thought Auto Zone or a tool rental place would have one but nobody did that day. Luckily a buddy of mine is a contractor and he had a set that worked. I'm glad the trailer was sitting in my garage rather than on the side of the interstate somewhere.

I bought a spare with both trailers my Excel has been on, single axle then tandem. I need to find out the hub and bearings used on my tandem and buy a set for spares in case I should hit the road with it.

Hey Doug, If you have the 3500# axles with 1 3/8" x 1 1/16" bearings I have a new never used hub for you complete ready to go on. I will bring it with when I come down this spring.

I'll call E-Z-Trac and get the bearing/hubsizes. Thanks Bill.

I'll trade you some custom cranks for it.
