    Default Green River Lake

While I was jigging brush piles at GRL yesterday morning, my bass fishing son caught a 40" Muskie on a willow leaf spinner bait. We took some pics and released the fish. Great fight & awesome experience. We did manage 7 keeper crappies, a white bass & a couple Ky bass all on jigs. Good bite until the clouds cleared. Just after releasing the Muskie, we spotted a bald eagle. Great day on the lake. 😑

I had a small musky strike a plastic worm about three feet from boat at grl a couple if years ago. It scared me to death. I didn't fish for thirty minutes after that.

LOL !!! Yeah, fishing a spinnerbait at Green OR Cave Run is almost "asking" for a Muskie to smack it !!

I have a 12lb/32.5" Tiger Muskie on the wall, that I caught at Green back in 1985 ... Crappie fishing with a 1/16oz chartreuse marabou Roadrunner, on 4lb test mono. Wouldn't have kept it except for the fact that it tore a hole in the net while being landed. Also destroyed the reel (el cheapo Wal-Mart blister pack rod/reel outfit) that I was using at the time. (hey, it was all I could afford back then )

That is too funny CP! Awesome fish, the Muskie. My wife said we should have kept it and mounted it. Wonderful experience, that we will never forget for sure.

.... no, actually the "funny" part came when the fish dropped thru the net & into the bottom of the boat and started thrashing around, knocking tackle boxes & stuff around. And my "net man" climbed up onto his seat to get away from the fish, while I jumped down on top of the fish on "all fours" to try and keep it from destroying even more tackle !!

(and, yes, that's the Roadrunner hanging from its bottom lip)

I had never thought of catching Muskie in Kentucky (I'm a poet). My wife and I are down there 3 times a year, mostly KY Lake. A musky would be fun.

A 5 lb Smallmouth destroyed one of my reels at GRL when I was about 12 years old. Best fighting fish I've ever hooked. GRL is one of my favorite lakes.
The secret to fishing? Fish where the fish are.

Alan, if you want a chance at a Muskie in Ky, then Cave Run Lake & Green River Lake are your best bets. They are also present in several of our river systems. I've caught a "legal" (at the time) size Muskie from both Cave Run & Green, and many "sub-legal" ones from Cave Run & the KY River. Only one of them was caught actually fishing for them, and that's the legal sized one I caught from Cave Run. The others were incidental catches while Bass or Crappie fishing.

I caught a musky on KY Lake 20+ years ago in December in Ledbetter Creek on a tube jig and 6 pound mono. I thought for sure I had the next world record smallmouth because it just kept digging for the bottom. Even when I got it in the net I couldn't believe it was a musky. There were no marinas or stores in Aurora that were open so I could get it officially weighed. Holding it at my waistband of my clothes, the tail was dragging on my Skeeter front deck. I guestimated it was 10 pounds or better after I quit shaking. This was well before cell phone cameras so I admired it then dropped it back in. I couldn't have afforded to have it mounted and I didn't want to kill the only musky I have ever seen on KY Lake, before or since.

I just wish I could have had Chaunc along so he could call me something other than Gaspergoo King.
