Thread: Crappie Cranks??

Dark colors in green, blue, black. Shad patterns. Pinks, orange, florescent colors. Get red hooks if available. Crappie fishermen are like bass fishermen, you don't sell the bait to catch the fish, you catch the fisherman. Any pattern will catch fish if you have confidence in it and keep it in the water. Don't think of a crappie crank as some tiny, wimpy deal. We catch a lot of BIG crappie on large bass baits. Also, deeper is not always better.

I paint my own so I have some customs patterns that no crappie or crappie fisherman ever thought of.

I use alot of pink and pink combos. One really needs a big variety tho. Those dang crappies change hourly in their preferences!!

bandit 200's and bandit 300's. Shad colors and orange and pinks. Sometimes solid black works too.

Look at the Arkies. Think they coming out with more colors soon.

My "go to" cranks are Bandit 200's and 300's.
Two most hit cranks are baby bass (by far the number one lure) and mad cow.
Then I have a variety of other colors that I experiment with on a daily basis, but if I could only have two colors, it would be baby bass and mad cow.
I probably have forty Bandits because they will get down to where the summer fish are.
200's dive to about 12 ft and the 300's will hit bottom at 15 ft. I troll between 1.6 and 1.9 MPH. I use 6# test line and just make a long cast with the cranks and put them in rod holders. Works great when the water gets to 75 degrees....and it's still working now with the water in the low 70"s .

going to try to fill about a 4' X 4' foot space on the wall with cranks

If you find you want to try something a little smaller than a bandit the norman deep little N's are good too. They may even have a crappie specific model.

I have never tried them but appreciate the idea behind the trailing treble being a wider and longer hook to grab short strikers. Sort of like these > Gamakatsu Fishing Hooks > Treble Hooks > Treble Hooks, Extra Wide Gap (EWG)
