Exclamation KY C.c Fruit Jar Tournament Rules discussion ...

This is a rough draft. Any questions or concerns about any of the following rules, portions of those rules, or interpretation of those rules ... reply to this thread. If you agree with these rules, a simple "yea" reply is all that's necessary.

KY C.c Fruit Jar Tournament Rules (draft):

You may enter alone or with the partner of your choice. But, you must have at least one Crappie.com member on the team, to fish in these tournaments. You will need to prove this by at least one verification from a known member not part of your team. Practice is allowed at events until midnight the day before the tournament. Disqualification of a team, for any reason, will result in the forfeiture of their entry fee(s) for that tournament event.
Tournament waters shall be defined as areas open to all participants of the event and accessible by normal navigational means only. Fishing within 50 feet of a marina gas pump or within 50 feet of a competitor’s anchored or tied off boat is prohibited. A safe and courteous distance should be maintained when trolling/main motors are in use. Any violation of off limits water will result in disqualification. No wake & no fishing area laws must be obeyed.
In the case of extreme weather/water conditions, we reserve the right to postpone or cancel a tournament.
Teams may launch anywhere within the boundaries of the lake being fished, & start fishing (line in water) anywhere on the lake at (time to be determined) and may continue fishing until (time to be determined). Any fishing by a team member before or after preset tournament hours, on the day of the tournament, will disqualify the team. Tournament hours will be listed when tournament date & lake are listed.
Team members must stay within 25 feet of each other while fishing. Teams must remain in boat while fishing. Nature calls are allowed, but all fishing must cease until team member returns to boat. Third partner must be under the age of 16.
Teams may use rod and reel combos, hand held pole and reel combos or hand held poles. Eight- (8) pole limit per team (2 hooks or baits per pole, maximum), even if only one angler constitutes a "team".
Live and/or artificial bait may be used, as long as it's legal to possess/use on the lake being fished.
Crappie must be hooked and landed with a rod or pole by team member(s). Landing nets may be used. Crappie must be hooked through the lip or in the mouth ... foul-hooked fish must be immediately released. No stringers or fish baskets may be used.
Teams must comply with all state fishing and boating regulations, including the use of PFDs and kill switches. Fishing/boating licenses and insurance are the responsibility of team members. Tournament officials/Crappie.com will not be liable for any accidents or litigation.
Crappie must be weighed at the official weigh-in ramp/site. Both team members must be present at the time of weigh-in to be eligible for prizes. Fish may be brought to weigh-in site by boat, or vehicle (if you launched from a different site or your boat is moored at another marina or private dock).
No team will be allowed to join the weigh-in line after (TBD). Angler(s) must be in line with fish by (TBD). (*TBD= to be determined)
A team may not weigh-in more than 7 crappie and those 7 crappie must be alive when entering the official weigh-in line. Any team presenting more than 7 crappie will be disqualified. Once you have entered the weigh-in line, your fish will be checked for count (7 crappie) and size limit compliance. All dead crappie will be removed from your creel and only those fish that are alive will be weighed. Once your fish have been verified alive, you will then be allowed to weigh-in those fish, and only those fish, even if one or more die before reaching the scales. The tournament weighmaster has sole responsibility for the declaration of dead or live crappie. All healthy fish weighed in will be released to the lake.
All crappie brought to the scales for weigh-in must have been caught during the tournament hours, from tournament waters, by the team bringing them to the scales.
All crappie presented for weigh-in must meet state/lake length requirements for the state/lake in which they are being weighed and may not have any weight enhancements. Any team bringing an illegal crappie to the weigh-in line will be disqualified. On lakes with no size limit, a mandatory 9" size limit will be used. Fish will be checked for size limit compliance, by being measured "mouth closed & tail pinched" to achieve maximum length. Fish not making the mandatory size limit will be removed from your catch, and a 3oz penalty will be assessed to your remaining weight.
Big Fish entries are an option. Big Fish Entry Fee will be $10/boat. Only one Big Fish entry per team. Team must designate their big fish entry at time of weigh-in. Big Fish winning team will be paid 100% of the Big Fish pot.
In the case of a tie weight between teams or for Big Fish, a coin flip conducted by the weighmaster will decide who qualifies for the placing of that team (or Big Fish winner).
The consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited during tournament hours & failure to follow this rule will be cause for disqualification of the entire team.
Protests must be made in writing to the tournament weighmaster within 30 minutes following the end of the official weigh-in. All protests must site the rule(s) allegedly broken. All protests will be decided by the weighmaster and results will be final.
NO ONE can be hired or compensated in any way to fish with you or for you at these events.
Instances of poor sportsmanship may be grounds for disqualification if circumstances require.
The use of mobile communication devices such as cellular phones, marine radios, walkie talkies, CBs, etc. to communicate fishing information during tournament hours is strictly prohibited. No hole sitting by competitor or noncompetitor boat during the tournament. The use of underwater cameras is prohibited.

    Payout scheme will be : 1st place @50% - 2nd place @ 30% - 3rd place @ 20% ... regardless of number of teams participating.

Entry Fee will be $30 per boat ... whether one, two, or three anglers constitute a team. Entry Fee must be paid to Weighmaster prior to tournament launch time. (this must be done in advance if not launching from weigh-in site)

Ok I think in case of a tie the parties should be able to choose a coin flip or split the pot.

The payout 50 30 and 20 is ok but I think the payout spots should be 1 for every 5 teams

With the entry fee being only $30 I agree that payout should be 1 for every 5 boats, just to make it worth while even if it is for fun. $150 pretty much gives someone a free fishing trip and maybe a little jingle in their pocket as well.Everything else is awesome I think. Great job C.P.

I struggled with choosing between paying top three places or paying 1 place for every 5 boats. Maybe I'm wrong, but ... if paying 1:5, how many places would you pay if there were 9 teams ?? Wouldn't that still only pay 1 place ??
And if there were only 5 boats ... paying 3 places (50/30/20) would still pay 1st & 2nd places more than they put in. And 3rd place would "almost" get their entry fee back.

Big Fish coin flip or pot split .... I'd vote for pot split, myself

I'm also wondering if we really need the kill switch rule ... and if we do keep it, would there be a need to exempt some boats ... like tiller motor boats, or boats with less than X horsepower ?? And if we do keep it, it would require all boats to be "tested" prior to launch ... which would be a potential burden to those launching at another ramp. We're not legally liable for any accidents/damage/injury ... so it would be the sole responsibility of the boat owner, as to whether a kill switch is used (or even if they have one, and/or the one they have works).

I wouldn't worry too much about the kill switches myself. As for the payout maybe a place for every 3, or4, or 5. What I mean is say a place for every 4, meaning 4 boats,....1 place paid. If you had 6 boats it would be 2 places paid until you had over 8 boats which would pay 3 PLACES. Does that make sense? If it's based on that, say 4 boats, if they was 13 boats it would pay 4 spots. Like if it was based on 5 boats 1 place paid and there were 7 boats in the tourney you would payout 2 places. I also like the 50/30/20 idea too. I'm just conversation, and will be fine either way as I most likely won't be in the money anyway.

i dont think we need the kill switch rule

i do like launching at any ramp. but will go along with what everybody wants

and yes if you pay 1 spot per 5 boat then if there is 9 boats only 1 spot.

how about this pay 2 spots up to 15 teams and then 1 spot for every 5 boats after that

example: 1-14 boats pays 2 places ......15 pays 3 spot........20 pays 4 spots and so on

How would that work though? 70/30 and then 60/40/20, 50/30/15/5 ect. or what?

Well if you hadnt skipped math class you would know that 60/40/20 wouldn't work.

    I would say 70/30 or 60/40 .....3 spots 50/30/20 or 60/30 10. 4 spots.....40/30/20/10
Not sure what the norm is
