I too would be interested in a club or some tournaments around here. Blinkey's tackle out of Fountain Run Ky is having a 7 fish tournament on Barren the first part of next month. They haven't set a date yet but I'll post it as soon as they do. You can also like them on Facebook.

I've looked at this thread for a couple of days and thought long and hard about what I have to say. I fished bass tournaments and bass clubs for years, both in GA and KY. I found out one gorilla-in-the-room issue with club and tournament fishing: there will be a percentage, most of the time small thank goodness, of folks who get involved and look at these activities as a cheap way to be guided around for a day so they can learn new tactics and new places to fish. Some will be newbies but many will be veterans who should know better than run all over somebody else's spots when they are shown them in confidence. I know some folks who fish crappie clubs and those clubs are very selective about who they invite to join.

Mrdux, crappie tourneys are way different than bass tourneys , crappie you don't have boaters and non-boaters. You don't draw for partners, everybody already has a partner or fishes by their self and are based more on a trust system than bass tourneys..I am not be a butt hole but crappie fisherman are way more honest than bass fisherman as a whole when it comes to tourneys. For the most part the only people that has a problem with crappie tourneys are the ones that fish bass tourneys because of the trust system. So most everything you posted does not apply to crappie tourneys. And mostly crappie tourneys are laid back and have way more FUN and meeting new people.

... yeah, that's one of the problems ... our lakes & our members are scattered around the state so much, that even picking 3 lakes to have the tourneys is going to exclude a lot of people (due to travel time/expenses). Take me, for example : Green is over 2hrs away, Barren ~ 2.5hrs, and KY/Barkley is 3.5 to 4+hrs away (depending on launch area).

Now, take you for example : what would be your say on having Green, Cumberland, & Taylorsville lakes as the 3 lakes to start out with ?? Or, perhaps ... Herrington, Cave Run, & Cedar Creek ??

The number of boats per tourny x's entry fee ... divided by the number of places paid (1st only/ winner take all ... or 1st @50% - 2nd @ 30% - 3rd @ 20%) may not be a big enough draw to get the participation level high enough to justify the cost per participant. Then you'd have to figure on having a member appear at "every" scheduled tourney ... to officiate, hold the entry fees, measure/weigh the fish, etc. (whether they fished or not). Not to mention whether or not the officiating member would be compensated for their appearance (free entry if fishing, or a percentage of the winnings whether they placed or not, or some other form of compensation).

Not trying to be a downer on this idea .... just bringing up some points to ponder & discuss. We'd also have to discuss the rules/regs necessary.

I would like to say a few things but it would be to long on here so it will be short and to the point.

First, IF we were to have these tournaments, i do have a scale for weighing fish and i don't mine doing it, if, no one objects. I would not want to be compensated for doing it. To me, it would not be about the money.

Because of the members and lakes being scattered, the only way to be fair about it is to have the tourneys on both sides. For example, ONLY EXAMPLE, first at Cumberland, Second at KY/Barkley, Third at Green, Fourth at Barren, Fifth at Taylorsville, Sixth at Nolin, ect......... Interstate 65 about splits the state. Scheduling would be one on that side and one on this side, so that way it would fair for most members with travel times.

The original ideal was to look at starting a club but trying out the tourneys first, which is a good ideal. But if some one is going to fish these tourneys JUST for the money or think they will make back what it has cost them to come to a tourney. Well that's not going to happen. Unless we get 40 boats or more, then maybe. I have fished bass, crappie and even catfish tourneys. Been in several clubs. I can count on one hand, when i have made back what i spent. If you do win some money, well it just helps covers some.

For me to fish these tourneys would not be about the money. For me, i love to crappie fish. I love going to new lakes. I like seeing all my buddy's, talking, cutting up and picking on each other and meeting new one's. And if i did win some money, it would just be a bonus. Just my .....
