    Default 1st Lake Barkley Trip

Just curious where a person might start.... Like water temps and whether the State Resort Park (I believe the Little River area) is great for crappie. black or white crappie? Planning to fish around the park area bay, but then again I am not wedded to it either. Based on recent post about Barkley, it appears there is plenty of structure. I plan to keep it slow and explore if nothing else. Anyhow, any help would be appreciated.

Go to the outer half of Little River and get on the ledges, Ease down them till you find brush in anywhere from about 12' to 20' of water. Check the brush top to bottom. If ya don't get bit pretty quick MOVE!!! I'm gonna say they'll be around 14' or so. When you start catch'n and develop a pattern ya got'um. Lots of small crawfish right now so pumpkin may be a good color.

Break out some curly-tail jigs and start slow trolling down a deep, rocky bank. Start out at 10 feet or so then move deeper if you have to. Keep in mind that Little River drains a bunch of farm land and with the rains we have been having, you should be able to row-crop it. It will be muddy, no doubt.

We caught 17 keepers on Ky Lake Sunday while dodging thunderstorms and monsoon. We were longlining in 10-12 feet of water with scattered structure. Many of the fish were not close to any structure. When we moved out to deeper water, we lost the fish. We caught a ton of 9+incher non-keepers with a few really good fish. Black clouds and sheets of rain with lightening makes it easy to decide to get on the trailer. We put in at a major public ramp and at 4 PM, there was not another trailer in the lot. Tell me how many times you have seen that on KY on a Sunday afternoon in June.
