Default How is the fall bite in KY Lake/Blood River

I usually haven't fished much in the fall, but hear the bite really turns on at one time or another in the fall.

Any idea of when it happens, IF it happens, in KY lake (specifically Blood River area)?

I haven't fished much this summer and feel a fall trip coming on to make up for part of it.

Water temp is now 81 degrees. I would assume it would be getting better when it drops to the high 60's low 70's.

Perhaps the timing of the N. KY Lake Shindig should tell me something!

The best fall/winter bite is usually between November - January for me. When we start seeing some 60 degree water it gets better. I have been picking up a few small fish lately and hope it gets better soon. The shindig timing is kind of geared around the weather. Here is a link to some good info. Joe ... if you haven't already checked it out, you might want to read through this KDFWR tagging study :

Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources - Preliminary Results

And, while it may be 8-9 years old, it still shows the movement patterns of the Crappie vs weather/water temps & conditions. And since fish are very much quided by these factors, it should still be viable information.

    Joe,

IFISH is right on the money. Worst thing a person can do is come down in September or early October expecting a great fall bite. Not to say it can't happen but some of my best fishing is in November and December. The water needs to get well down into the 60's and the shallows start filling with shad and then the crappie follow.

    Good Luck!
