    Default Kentucky Lake gills

I posted on the Brim Forum but only got one response so I thought I would try here. Anybody braving the high and muddy water on Kentucky Lake and fishing for Bluegills? I am supposed to be coming down Saturday the 15th with some friends. I see they are really drawing the water down quick but curious if they are still biting and if the water is starting to clear at all or when you guys from down there think it will. Fished last year in May when the water was up and did pretty good but it wasn't anywhere near this muddy and obviously had not been this high.

No, but only because I haven't had time.

I have been hearing reports of them being caught in pretty good numbers by bank anglers still.

The vast majority of the lake is still a mud hole but way back in some of the creek fed bays is a lot better. There is still actually a little bit of clear water in a very few areas.

Fished Barkley yesterday and Ky. today with not much happening on the bluegills. Fished 20 of my best beds and they are not on the beds. Had a few shallow but that bite is all but gone with the water going down very fast. I tried out on some of my crappie beds and had a few in 12 FOW. I just canceled a weeks vacation if that tells you anything. To many changes on the lakes. Even the bass guys prefishing the FLW tournament this weekend are shaking there heads.Water is fast and very, very muddy on both lakes. Most ramps are still under water. Sorry but that is what it is.

Wow. According to the guys I'm talking to, the bass are on fire.

One guy caught approx. 150 fish and a coworker had over 19lbs during a 4 hour afternoon tournament just yesterday. He said they probably caught 50 fish.

I've heard of alot of redear being caught. I haven't had a chance to go, but with any luck that will change.

Big gills and a few redears in the backs of bays on those light colored bodies with a waxie. Had at least 70 in 2 1/2hours! Released em all! A cat, yellow belly, largemouth and gar too.

Mr whiskers showed up! (Not that wiskers the other one!)

Thanks to everyone for all of the helpful information. BIGBADDAD and Indyfisherman I am glad to hear you guys are gettin on em. The water in the pic doesn't look as muddy as the main lake unless it is just deceiving in the pic. We will be getting there Saturday afternoon and staying until the following Saturday on Jonathan Creek so this makes me feel a lot better. Worse case scenario it's gotta be better than working. Stay safe out there and keep the reports coming.

Water gets clearer the farther back into the bay you get. Have fun!
