    Default Jig Pole Reels

I heard they were going to outlaw all reels on poles, and use sewing thread spools. Reason, the new technology allows the fisherman to reel/recover the fish faster. Obama is going to sign it tuesday, its called Fish Reform!

LOL!!! Could not resist! So many feelings on shirt sleeves, and the weather has got everybody tore up!:D:D

So, what kind of reels do you use on your jig poles? I like to use a smaller frame fly rod reel with drag tension. Found a very good reel at Dunns that I have invested 2 so far by Martin. Didn't add much weight to the set up either!

    Cool Mini Baitcasters

I use the little level wind baitcasters. All you need is something to hold line.

Upside- They are lite, don't take up much room in the rod box, easy to take apart and clean, can be made to be right or left handed, and relatively cheap.

Downside- If you buy the cheapo's ie. Uncle Bucks (worst or all), High Tech, off brands. The gears will strip. The handles will come off and/or bend. Small diameter line will get behind the spool (this is a real problem with some brands). The Wally Marshall's are bad about it plus thy are hard to disengage to let out line. I've never used the ones that Grizzily Jig Co. sells, so I can't comment on them.

The best ones I've found are the Shakespeare WonderReels and their Crappiehunter. I'm not a big Shakespeare fan but these are pretty good. I've been using them for years and only had 1 fail on me.
