Thread: New trailer build

My son removed the 4 lug wheels and hubs to check axle size for new 5 lug hubs and wheels. He got a surprise, lug bolts instead of nuts. Ride side righthanded, left side lefthanded. Reminds me of the 1948 Dodge my uncle had.
I loosened all bolts and removed one of each size. Will take them to the hardware store for new ones.

Looking at new spring bushings I can replace with new springs for about the same price. Shipping has gone out of sight.

Can't find 1/2" ID, 13/16" OD spring eye bushings. I got 1/2" ID, 7/8" OD ones that I'll be running on my bench sander to make fit.
We had plans to go to Metal Supermarket for a 2"X2"X1/4"X 12 ft piece of angle iron. 30 mile trip plus over $100. I found a piece 12 ft 6" for free on facebook. I drove 24 miles and brought it home.
Everything was delivered yesterday, bushings, spring center pins, wheels and hubs. Get it built back so I can cut the angle iron to fit.

I spent 2 1/2 hours at Buck's Hardware looking for 4 1/2" flop disk sanding pads. All different sizes and styles are in 2 huge bins. Kinda worth the digging to save 65% of sticker price. Looked for a 36 grit, got a 60 and 80. A few wire brushes of different styles too.

Boy, it's hot. Can't work on the trailer long enough to do any good. Got to weld some angle iron to the sides to make it a bit wider. Then we'll know how large a sheet of diamond plate aluminum we'll need.

Got a new brand of black spray paint I've never heard of before. I sprayed a few parts and days later it's still tacky. It's Finisher, I did some research, it's used on livestock legs to keep insects from bothering them. It's tar based.

On marketplace I got a Scotty 3 rod holder without the post mount for $40. The lady showed me around the junk and trash filled yard in case I wanted something else. A square tube over the cab ladder rack that's now for sell for $100 on marketplace. I didn't measure, don't know if it's for short or long bed. There's a single jet ski trailer without wheels with a bent wheel fender that I'd like to check out.

The square tube ladder rack is reduced to $75. My son says we can cut it up for projects. One will be to cover the edge of the trailer. I had planned to buy light duty angle iron for that.
