That’s why I didn’t buy any rear seats for same problem. You could attach a leash or small float to it or lay it across kayak using rod holders like this article on rigging a kayak.

Quick question for folks. I fish in a kayak and really struggle to find a way to secure my 10' rod that has a rear reel seat. The normal rod holders on my milk crate don't work, so I am wondering if any of you have found a solution. I love the rod and want to use it, but I am afraid I might lose it.

BuckeyeCrappie thanked you for this post
fly rod style holder should work just fine
Had a bungee paddle holder on the side of the kayak. I used it to secure my rods while padding from one place to the next
The love for fishing is one of the best gifts you can pass along
Thinking fly rod holder also.
They make industrial twist ties for kayaks.
Gear ties, I think they are made by Nite-Ize . Company. Google that.
I have a set I use when in swift water rivers. Work great
