Good idea
The love for fishing is one of the best gifts you can pass along
i bought a 15 lb mushroom anchor at wal mart being that was only one left in stock. benefits of smallest wal mart in america.....
I have the anchor trolly and a 5 lb anchor on my 11.5 lure and it works really well. I have a 10 foot line with a snap to connect to the trolly. I also have a float on it in case it comes loose.
Can't go wrong with an 8# dumbell (rubber coated) from Walmart, Academy, etc.

"Low-profile Anchor Wizard" for lowering and raising your anchor. 100 bucks at amazon but once you have one there's no other way
for the anchor I use Da Bomb Anchor Company | United States. You want a ball style anchor. Id avoid the hooks and mabye even the bells because you will flip yourself if the get jammed up in current or from you trying to free them if they get stuck. Never had a ball get stuck, not to say it cant happen though

I've used a downrigger weight in a pinch. My primary anchor is a 5# window weight.

I mostly fish ponds and small lakes, especially for bream. I use a small grapple anchor in addition to a stake out pole. Helps keep the kayak in place. Use them both when set up in a bedding area.
