Went to Moulton City Lake with a friend in our canoes Thursday! Fished for 6 hours and I could hardly walk for next two days. I have always used canoes! Worked as a freshwater research assistant for 6 years in Upstate New York and was in canoe most every day, but legs just can’t take it anymore. What type of kayak would be safest and most comfortable for a larger(275lbs) older(63yo) man? Money not a big consideration but I am frugal! Looked at some at Field and Stream in Florence , but not sure where to start. Thanks for any advice!

Kayaks wore my rear end and my back out just sitting so long restricted. I bought a Sun Dolphin Sportsman 4’ x 8’ boat that I can throw in the back of my Tundra, and it is extremely comfortable. I could fish all day in this thing and it weighs just a little more than my kayaks did.

That sounds pretty good. One problem I have is an 8 yo grandson who LOVES to go out in canoe. Kinda apprehensive about getting him a kayak! I have a great older motor guide trolling could put on something! More choices, Darn!!!

I don't have one...yet, but have been doing a lot of research on them. I'm about 40lbs less and 3 yrs older so I feel your pain! I'm tired of crawling over the nose of my Tracker to get it back on the trailer. Went to my local lake a couple of days ago and spent more time fighting the boat in the wind than I did fishing. I fish alone 90% of the time.
I would suggest looking at the 10 ft. 2 person boats. There are a ton of You Tube videos on them, and how people do modifications also ! Some even build removable casting decks like a bass boat!
Twin Troller, Bass Hunter 120, Pelican 10E, and Sun Dolphin Sportsman 10 seem to be the most popular brands. I think the others, a couple, are made by these. I heard Sun Dolphin was closing their doors, or just had. But there are a ton of them out there.
A middle of the pecking order Pelican 10E can be had at Bass Pro for about $650...just checked, $600 on sale right now.
Thank you gator bait. I also fish alone or with grandson! Have a Triton VT 17 that gets used very little! I think a small 2 man boat may be the way to go. Not sure I’ll be any more comfortable in a kayak! Gonna watch some videos tonight!

I bought a mid priced fishing kayak with an elevated adjustable mesh seat. I absolutely hated it after a couple of hours my back was so stiff I couldn't walk. I much prefer the canoe. I have an OldTown Guide Series 14 foot that I can stand up in and paddle along to give my back and legs some relief.
The love for fishing is one of the best gifts you can pass alongGator Bait LIKED above post
