Or does the pointy end need to face towards the front of the kayak?

Don't see why not. I'd place a large zip tie through that handle and the transducer just in case I brushed up against a tree limb and knocked it loose.

The orientation or direction of the transducer would make more of a difference on some chart-plotters and fish finders, but I think that most of the mid to lower end units have cone shaped signals that are sent out from the transducer and shouldn't cause a problem (unless the cone isn't a true cone and only linear in fanning out). However, if the fish on your fish finder appear to either swim sideways or engage in continual sessions of "moon-walking"... I would re-evaluate your transducer placement! Let us know how it works out, perhaps there is something that we have overlooked. Good Luck!

After more thought... I seriously don't think that you are going to want to keep your transducer aimed/pointed to your left. Try it out first and then manually re-orientate it pointing forward and I think you will see what I mean. I guess the fella's that write the instruction booklets for the manufactures might know a thing or two after all! :-)

Thanks. I removed the suction cup and installed with goop inside the hull
