Wish I was closer. Sounds like it will be fun when it all comes together.
Looking to get together with other "yakers" for Crappie Fishing In Southern Illinois and Southeastern Mo. I live in the St. Louis Area, having about two years of play time in using kayaks for fishing lakes. Its been a "catch what's biting adventure", thus far but really wanting to learn more about crappie fishing.
Willing to travel with overnight camping an option to fish a two-day weekend.
Currently I have a 14' Wilderness Commander as well as a 16' single/double Old Town, both being "sit-in-side" type.
Looking to order within the week, a Wilderness Thrasher 155, as I hope to progress to bigger lakes. I have interest in Traveling up to Frankford MI to fish a bit, on Lake Michigan mid-summer. I see benefit in the sit on-tops style for that kind of water. You have a lot of work to do before getting back out of the water when you flip or take on water in a it sit-inside type boat!
Thus far, I've been on smaller lakes and done well. Wife is not as able to schedule time to fish these days and I really enjoy the though of fishing with others. 61 years old but willing to learn from any age! What say? any takers? Like planning out a few weeks in advance, having some weekends open in May, all of June and most all of July.
Throw out some dates and see if we can catch a few bites!

Hey, Don't I know you, from fishing them Trouts in Arkansas? If I get some more experience and hook up with a few from up here, you can host the January Derby... LOL
There is a pay to fish place outside Colombia called Trophy Country Fishing | Trophy Country I have never been there but it may be interesting to see if a group with their own Kayaks could get a special deal. It is catch and release only and $100 a day but could be worth the cost for a one time visit.
I take it there is not interest in a group trip to Trophy Country?
Is that the Strip mind area north of town? But you are correct.... I have no shortage of good fishing waters that I'd pay $100 a day to fish in a loaded barrel, then put them back! LOL... I couple of a hundred "free lakes" within the same driving distance of my home! And many are top notch lakes with good "big fish populations!
At that rate, I could near hire a guide to tie flies on my line and feed me lunch!
Call me cheap.... But that's not my game!
Take Care!

That looks like an interesting place-I might have seen it mentioned a whie back ut never pursued it. The price is actually not very high, considering how close it is, and if it is even close to as good as some of the lakes like Ray Scott or Jimmy Houston has their name attached to. If there is a price break for us using a low-impact method like a kayak, all the bettter. I will definitely look into this wolfhnd. I lived in Columbia for 18 years total and just hit the public lakes around town. Besides-bass is automatically C&R for most people.
EDIT: I sent these guys an inquiry about a day of bass fishing using our own kayaks. Hopefully they aren't touchy WRT zebra mussel-type stuff. I'll let you know what I hear back. Have you ever heard of/fished Sugar Creek Lake out of Moberly? That is a lake I am going to hit sometime this year-most likely with my bass boat though.

I'm in Kansas City so it is a bit of a drive but probably the most centrally located place with reportedly good fishing for Missouri residents. I wasn't hoping for a group discount as much as access to a place we wouldn't be sharing with a lot of others.
I would rather pay the hundred bucks than drive all the way across the state. On the other hand if someone gets a group together I'm still open to suggestions.
TwainGang whatever the others decide let's plan on giving it a go if it checks out.
I have to confess that I forgot what board I was on when I posted last time. I did send an inquiry to these guys, but going by what I read, WRT their crappie fishing and allowing for any kind of a harvest will be limited...and based on you staying overnight apparently. If you're interested in bass fishing, I'll wait to see if they reply back. I admit not a whole lot of people C&R for crappie.
Weren't we going to hit Che Ru for crappie sometime this spring wolfhnd?
