I fished out of my yak yesterday, using a 13' B&M black widow extention pole with eyelets, and a quick change reel.I was fishing in basically a debris field of fallen trees, and floating log jam with very little wiggle room to pull fish.while the pole allowed me to reach those distant small openings,it posed a real bugger when the wind tangled the line around the rod tip ( many times )
Other than collapsing the pole each time it happened, I found a better way to handle this particular pole.Seeing as the whole set up is waterproof including the reel,I would slip the pole back and alongside my kayak until I could reach the rod tip to untangle. The rod floats, which is a plus, making the task a bit easier to handle. Will I continue to use a pole this long from a kayak? If I have to I will, but my other rods are much shorter and easier to handle.

This is my long-lining set up for crappie. I affectionately call it my two pole spider rig. Both rods are 10' noodle rods (Steelhead rods). Right behind the port rod holder you can seen another rod holder at 90 degrees. I can stand up the long rods and work with the flies (in this case) and minnows with ease. If I do need to get to the tip, I can reach the joint between and separate the two pieces. Works for me.
