Went out spider rigging in my kayak this morning.....no incidents!!!! Hopefully the jinx is off. The gar really seemed to like the Bobby Garlands, but the crappie had lock jaw.

My worst was when I was trying to do a fall time surf launch (ocean) off a beach to go striper fishing by Montauk Point here in NY, and I kept getting capsized by the waves into the 50-60 degree water. After the 6th or 7th time, I almost made it, but my timing was off and I got hit by a big wave that flipped me end over end. As I was flailing around in the wash, another wave took my now flooded kayak, and dropped it on my head almost knocking me out and pinning me to the bottom underwater for what seemed like an eternity. My PFD was the only thing that brought me back to the surface as I had no idea which way was up. After I started to collect my gear and pack up, a couple from the crowd of onlookers on the beach came up to me and the woman held out a mirror - I saw blood running down the side of my head. I was pretty banged up as well as was my gear. LOL

I did make it out the next day to hit a few bluefish/striper blitzes, and caught some nice fish!!!

Another time I was fluke fishing off the Atlantic Highlands coast in New Jersey, maybe a half mile out, and a storm caught me and blew me further out. I had an old Ocean kayak Scrambler XT that was as streamlined as a brick. It took me 4 hours of furious paddling to get back, all the while motor boats were passing me going back in and no one offered to help. LOL By the time I got back into the harbor, the lightning and thunder was crashing all around me, and the rain was going sideways. I was the last 'boat' in.

My friends who were out in a motor boat, went in earlier because the water was too rough for them They never bothered to check on me and all went out to dinner. Needless to say, I was NOT amused....

    Kb2112,
Looks like you have had a couple of rough outings. Sure looks like you are hooked on the tug or after those experiences you would hang it up. I would like to try some flats fishing in the ocean sometime but I don't think I will be going out too far. Right now I am strictly fresh water, mostly the Tennessee River and its feeder streams and backwater. I would like to play around some next year when I go down to the Perdido Key area of Florida.

Well, crap. This is easy. Earlier this year I tried to make an outing with a guy that just bought his kayak. We had made it into a smaller bay, and I was fine just standing and tossing my cast net to get some bait. We left the bay, and stuck close to shore to a fallen tree. About 20 minutes of sitting and fishing, and I (for one reason or another) reached over the edge just as the wake of a passing boat came through... I turtled... I did manage to flip everything back up, and fortunately my rods tangled up on themselves. My buddy helped grab gear while i got back on and got things situated.

Not ten minutes later, I flipped again. Except this time I lost two rigs, and a couple Plano boxes out of my crate. One was full of various sinkers, and the other was full of Rapala's n stuff. Fortunately for me there was a couple great guys just down the lake in a real boat. I called them, and they came by to assist. After they caught both rods, I was only out the sinkers and crank baits. It's nice to have great people in your friends network.

I was fishing a motorless lake bass tournament in a buddy's sun dolphin Aruba 10 in April. It was a cold day in April too. Being 6'2" and 270 I wasn't too comfortable, but I felt good enough to make a run to the dam from the boat ramp. Well let me tell you that wasn't a great decision. As the sun got up over the horizon, the wind picked up, so I head back to shore to recoup and change my game plan. Little did I know that my friend didn't have a drain plug in the kayak.

So I'm hauling my butt to get to shore, and I look back and notice that I'm taking on water. "Oh no" I thought. No one very close, and there's now water up to my waist. No way I'm making it to shore, so I flip out of the kayak and try to gather what rods and tackle I could. I ended up losing a 60 dollar combo, my phone took a dump, and I was freezing cold with no dry clothes. I end up getting picked up by some guys in a 15 ft boat with a trolling motor. (They ended up winning the big bass pot) after I dry off and find a cork to stick in the drain hole I go back out, having only one rod now, and I go to a cove on the north end, and I toss a shaky head towards a bulkhead and catch a 2 and a half pounder, so i made the most of it, but man that day was rough

Not my worst day, but it did prevent me from fishing. Result from previous weekend cold snap that hit Oklahoma.
