Congrats on the buy now you are hooked. Kayak fishing is very addictive. Sounds like a good first outing. Post some pictures of your new Kayak.
I was told by a few people, some being the staff at Field and Stream that it can get wetter versus and sit in type, after my maiden voyage this morning the rear scupper holes in the rear storage weren't wet at all so I'm thinking they might have been wrong . My thought process was that a sit in kayak would keep me a bit more protected from the wind on cold days. This one had everything I was looking for, a large open cockpit, a comfy seat, a useful dashboard, everything is within arms reach and a large open storage area in the rear, best of all I picked it up on sale for around 450. I took it out this morning for the first time and everything went well. This is my first kayak and the first time ever in one this morning. It was a bit "wobbly" a few times but everyone said to expect that the first few times out. I went out looking for pan fish but ended up hooking into a very large small mouth which towed me around for a couple minutes lol and another large fish (didn't see what it was) before my knot failed. All in all what a blast, I went to waters I've never been able to get to before even with the float tube. Very excited to take it out to a new lake tomorrow morning now that the new fish finder is mounted and functional.

Will do. I've added some basic things like more anchor points, a paddle holder, a Yak Attack create and rod holders. I'm waiting for my Scotty transducer mount to come in this week. I'm also adding floor padding, I saw some black anti skid cupboard liner thats kind of carbon fiber looking, rubberized material. I'm going to line the floor and sides and also where I put my hands to get in and out. Lastly added some mesh pockets on the sides (kind of whats behind car seats) to hold my small Plano boxes and small dry box. Should be very user friendly and look good.
Just my two cents. I chose my Field and Stream Shadow Caster because I plan to fish all winter. We don't ice over, but it can get cold from time to time. I have been paying attention to how wet I was getting this summer to gauge my winter. Like Yaker said, I am only getting paddle drips. I can handle that
I ended up taking the Perception back to FS, it developed or had stress cracks on the floor. I too ended up getting the Shadow Caster. I outfitted it with a Scotty gear track transducer mount with a gear head on top for my fish finder. Also added an anchor trolly. So far so good, like night and day compared to the other kayak, I was able to stand and make a few casts but don't think I will make that a common thing lol. Whats weird is it's not listed on their web site any more.
also look at vibe kayaks. you cant beat the price with what it all comes with.
You have it nicely outfitted. I have not tried standing up yet. Too chicken I guess and the seat if very comfortable so I use it as sour grapes!! LOL. A fish finder is coming, just not sure what to get. I haven't made my mind up about an anchor trolley. I put Railblaza rod holders and love them.
The anchor trolley is probably one of the best things I've added. I have about 20 bucks (including the anchor) into it. I'm adding one more gear head for a scotty rod holder and that's it, I'm all about clean and simple. I stood up again the other day and it wasn't any better lol. Other than a much needed stretch I think I'll be in the seated positions lol
