    Default kayak tackle bag

Space is always at a premium in a kayak. I'm trying to find a small tackle bag to keep in my area of the kayak and currently using a small bag type cooler with the plastic insert removed. With the plastic insert, the small plano utility boxes will not fit by about 1/4 inch. Like to know what other people use to hold their tackle when fishing. Thanks, Pop

I keep three of the blue ringed "waterproof" planos under my seat (elevated Jackson). In a milk crate, behind my seat I keep two more. Plus a soft-sided cooler (6-pack size) that holds all of my plastic in their original bags. More tackle can be stored under the hatches but I don't bother.

I do modify the planos by taking a hot-wire and burning out some of the dividers.

I go through the tackle box for what I want to carry on the kayak. It's all placed in small containers in a gallon zip lock bag.

I bought a camel back with a few pockets. I keep 2 plano boxes with tackle for that trip and other small fishing items in it. It hangs on the seat so everything including the water is readily accessible.

I just picked up a new Spider Wire bag (the smaller one) it came with 3 3600 series boxes but will fit 4. Got it at FS on sale for 24.99. I use that for my pan fish gear and put it right between my feet because I get tired of reaching around back. It's a nice little bag with tons of storage and several pockets.

The good and bad thing on a kayak is the obvious lack of storage. Some guys look like the international space station when they go out. I like that it focuses me down to taking what I will actually be using. I like the little soft sided bag that I got for free when I joined BASS that holds two plano boxes and has a pocket for incidentals. I also have a couple that I purchased. I also have a waterproof box for cell phone. Tie everything down or you will contribute to the lake! I have a pair of surgery needle holders with a blade (Olsen-Hager) on a lanyard around my neck for cutting line, crimping split shot, removing hooks etc. I also have a piece of pool noodle on the center console to use as a drying rack for marabou jigs or flies.
Calling fishing a hobby is like calling brain surgery a job.

I have a few species specific Plano boxes for a quick grab and go trips. For planned trips I'll pick out what I want and throw it in a separate box. I'll use the seat back compartment for pkgs of tails/worms. Whatever I take with me I carry in either a bucket or soft sided cooler. It's generally scattered around the yak by trips end.

I use this Cabelas bag. It's a little larger than I'd like, but it's also pretty rigid. The other ones I've tried tend to collapse.

i keep hooks, jigheads and hard baits in small Plano boxes. Plastics get sorted into gallon ziplock bags (in original packaging).

Not trying to advertise for Cabela's - but they sell a few varieties of bags that look like this. Usually Blue or Green (even Pink!) - and I have about 5-6 of these that I put various 'mini-boxes' - One for trout, one for panfish, one for bass, etc. Then if I'm 'conficted' (LOL) I just grab one mini-box out of each - or whatever I think I need. THey have the right mix of big, little, compartments for incidentals, etc. and they're not very big. THey work well with the Plano 3450 series and then I think it's the 3600 series. THere's a slight difference between the 'blue' ones and the 'green' ones - I prefer the green ones. and wait for them to be on sale where you can get them as promo items for about $10 (instead of the usual $15-$25 - depending on if they come with the boxes or not)

But the one I probably use the most (it's really small) is this Copper River Scout mini-bag (holds 2 of the 3500's and a small container for incidentals) It's great if you know exactly what you need or are taking a shorter trip. - just grab a rod, this bag and keep the really essential 'go-to' things that you know you always have confidence in... For me - chasing panfish, it's a lot of Sliders and a few topwaters and small rapalas.

Keep this one going, right now I am using a couple of the Plano 3500 waterproof bungee corded to the floor right in front of my seat. Along with my milk crate and a few more 3500's in the milk crate. However I am wanting to replace the milk crate with a cooler for my fish so I to find a small tackle bag to help hold my tackle boxes up front or strapped right behind my seat. So I am looking for ideals....I like the look of the Cabelas and Copper River bags that ILRiverRat posted above.
