    Default electronics on Kayaks

My son just purchased a Kayak & wants to put a depth finder on it. What type battery do you guys use to run the electronics? How do you mount the Transducer?

This is what I bought. I bought a cheap shotshell ammo box at Academy to stow in my bow hatch. I bought a slightly larger battery in anticipation of adding some led lighting later. As far as the transducer mount I bought the Scotty transducer arm to get it in the water. I would Google fish finder mounts and view the images that Google fetches to find something suited to your specific boat. Good luck!

What he said. Google "scupper hole transducer mount".

Thanks a bunch. I couldn't imagine putting a full size battery on board.

I use the same type battery. I put my transducer in a block of foam and just hang it over the side. My DF/FFs are mounted on the top of the boxes that hold the battery. That way I can just set it between my knees. I can use either (I have two) in either of my canoes (I have two - a 11' 9" solo and a 17' aluminum) or my 10' jon.

Dot now if you have an Academy nearby or not? They have recently had a 12v deer feeder battery on sale for half price. Very similar to the one pictured above.

I bought a small hard plastic locking ammo box to rig mine up. I put the battery inside and mounted a bracket on top where I can pop my fish finder on on off of when using This way it is portable and can use it in both of my kayaks and I also like not having to drill any holes in my kayak. I set the box on the floor right between my legs so I can see it easily and make any adjustments without having to reach far. I run the transducer off the side of the kayak.

I kept a piece of packing foam from my new stove and cut a hole to fit the transducer. I secured it with zip-ties.
Two pictures - top & bottom.

It drags very nicely along side the canoe while paddling or behind the jon boat with a trolling motor.

And before anyone asks - No - the way the transducer is pointing has no effect on the display.
