I fly fish out of a float tube almost exclusively, but a lot of people like kayaks.
Quick question. Which would be better for fishing slow moving streams and small lakes/ponds (50 acres and less, typically)? A cheap Kayak, or this?http://www.cabelas.com/product/class...on/1907270.uts
Never fly fished from boat, so just curious if sitting in water vs above, and which would be better, in general, based in your guys experiences. Not looking to spend a lot, as you can tell.
Thanks for any help!

One consideration is the Wind. The wind will blow you around in one of the smaller pontoons due to how high you sit out of the water, more than it will in a kayak.
And as for fly casting sitting down just practice. I was taught to FF from a canoe (a very long time ago) so for me it is natural. ONE thing to remember is to keep your back-casts high.

I've used the little pontoon and a kayak, but not for fly fishing. To me, the pontoon is more comfortable and much more stable. As previously stated, the pontoon does blow around a little more, but you can correct some of that by kicking your feet.
I have kayaks but never tried fishing from the other option so I can't really compare the two but one thing the kayak would probably offer you is more flexibility if at some point you choose to fish larger bodies of water than you listed.
You probably can't really go wrong either way though and I'm sure they both would be fun.
If you can fly cast standing you can do it sitting. I fish out of canoe/kayak with the long rod. Like anything it takes a little getting used to, but a cast is a cast. The sitting down I figured out, still spend some time hung in the trees on the smaller streams though. I never fished out of a float tube or pontoon boat like that so I cannot offer anything there. If you have any kayak forums near your area check them out for a classified section and maybe you can find a good deal on a used yak.
Kayak. If you have any more than a couple hundred yards to travel that toon wouldn't be very good I bet.
Fish on Line thanked you for this post
Kayak will be faster on the water, easier to load and unload, take up less storage space, keep your feet out of the water, and have longer lifespan.
Pontoon will be more stable and have a higher weight capacity, offers easier options to motorize.
I've done it out of both. Prefer the small pontoon for the stability factor (probably because of my age). Have the kayak and a couple pontoons for sale in the Members Sale section.

A good used NuCanoe or other stable kayak would be my choice. I have a NuCanoe and Wilderness Systems Ride 135 and both are great for fishing....but I don't stand and fish.
