Default Rack for Jeeps for transporting a kayak

I have a 2004 Jeep Wrangler 2 door. I am looking for a roof rack to transport my kayak. Does anyone on this board have a similar Jeep and rack? I am looking online, but there are a LOT to choose from. I was hoping someone on this forum would have a similar situation as mine. Thanks.

What model kayak are you looking at transporting? The dimensions and weight influence which rack system may work best for you.

Dapet i use to haul a canoe on a CJ with foam blocks and a T-Bar that hooked to the receiver hitch it was inexpensive and worked great. I used this set up with the hard top and bikini top. I used a ratchet strap on the T-bar and 2 straps to the front brush guard. I would drive 70mph with no problems.

If you look on amazon now I reviewed the pair that I bought. It is just a generic one size fits all type rack.

I am putting it on a Cherokee though with the factory luggage bars. The ones I got are cheap but will serve the purpose.

I have a 2004 Unlimited and haul either a Malibu X Factor or a canoe. I found a front and rear light bar, cheap, ground the mounts off and these work for my purposes. Foam blocks on the bars work fine for the yak and the canoe just rests on the bars.

I installed Yakima's on a hard top - the racks were 6' long and the mounting bracket was for a camper shell for a truck - took some modification, and silicon, but it worked for years
