    Default Weed beds

I just bought my first fishing Kayak. I have never been in a Kayak before but I see more and more people
using kayaks for fishing so I am going to try it. My question is how hard is it to paddle through weed beds?
Some of the lakes I will fish have extensive milfoil beds that I would have to paddle through to get to the
    fishing spots.

Its not hard paddling over the mats of grass. It will slow you down a little by the extra drag on the hull. I have to change my stroke some to keep weeds from m hanging onto the paddle but that's mostly on the aft part of the stroke. You can paddle through weeds and grass mats that would stop a trolling motor in its tracks. Paddle over lay down trees at the waters surface just by leaning back and letting the boat ride up and over to the balance point and then lean forward to let it slide the rest of the way off. I fished allot of back waters in the river delta. You can fish areas with a kayak that are hard to get into any other way. I fished and area that had a 100 yard sand flat about 4 inches deep at high tide you had to cross the get back there. That was a honey hole that nobody fished.

Agree with what jwonear said, you will be surprised at the water you can fish. Looking in the back water for deeper pockets can be productive and with the kayak you will have many places even a flat bottom boat can't get to. I have not had any problems fishing weed beds, yet

Something I left out is I feel better while paddling through thick weeds to have my life jacket on. I would rather not drowned tangled up in matted grass.

When I'm fishing in my kayak I always wear a life jacket.

I'll have to agree with everything said too.
Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.
Teach a man to fish, he'll sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

oh yeah, if you get a kayak that allows you to stand, a push pole can be a faster option in weedbeds than a paddle.
