One son got a small blue noodle at a store for .50. My other son got one small pink noodle at another store for .25. I went to the plumbing supply shop and got the larger 10 foot tubes for the ladder rack for $1.60 and $2.50.
I put a piece of foam in the rod holder behind the seat for the flag. With a 6 foot stick and the angle, my head is higher than the flag.
I have a small soft side cooler with a hard plastic box inside that fits in the space behind the seat. I put a bungee cord at the top and bottom pretty tight, wrapped the cord around the stick a couple of times. With the wave action this weekend it would fall over. I'll rethink it before going out again.
I went to my walmart and looked at the small and large noodles at regular price. Must have been 20 boxes of each. A few days later I returned. Finding a lot of pool supplies on clearance. When I got to where the noodles were, they were gone. I asked about them. They were packed and shipped to storage.
I have had a few close calls over the years and never given a thought to adding a flag to my kayak. Definitely going to flying one soon.
It is not about the equipment you have to use,
It is about how you use the equipment you have. :D
I have one of those bright yellow safety vest left over from my working days. If it's large enough I could wear it over my PFD.
Reading this I had an idea come to mind. What about a piece of PVC, sectioned if needed, with a 12" piece of pink pool noodle epoxied to the end as a flag? And as for the inside diameter of the noodle not meeting your needs, I have used a hole saw to open up the inside hole to fit over my rod holders to put a jig or two into. Sections can be cut and reconnected to make longer sections.
Creativity is just intelligence fooling around
My wife and I use the Visi-Carbon Pro flags with the LED light for early morning launches, they just slip into one of the rear flush mount rod holders. I've only had one really close call offshore in the kayak and that was from a jet-ski. When we're on the lake we use the same flag, but I slip a smaller diameter blaze orange pool noodle over the mast to increase the surface area of orange for boaters to see. The noodle stows in my hatch when not in use. My PFD is blaze orange also so I, myself am acting like some sort of 220lb man-flag.

I usually wear a bright Chartreuse safety Tee Shirt when fishing high traffic areas. That and the Fluorescent Orange blades on my bending branches paddle should hopefully catch their attention.
My paddles are black. I do have some of the yellow reflective DOT tape I could put on the paddles.
In the kids bicycle section at walmart they have a white 6 foot rod with a international orange flag on it for kids to put on their bikes. Ijust put one on my kayak. made by bell.
