Default Any one has the NUCANOE ?

I have been thinking about getting one. Went out and demo"d one the other day here in town. just saving up my allowance to get a yak that can go from tandem to solo. it fits the things I want to do out of it more than most "fishing Kayaks", as I want to go paddle with my wife and kid some times and also fish, crab and frog out of it too. Whats you guy opinions on them.

I have had one, Frontier 12, for over a year. I really like it. It is very stable, very comfortable and a very dry ride. Very good fishing platform. Paddles pretty good for a big, wide boat. Paddles better than the Malibu XFactor that I had prior to this one. I have also gotten a trolling motor and use it periodically. I recommend it, as it fits all the criteria I was interested in. I purchased it at Pack and Paddle in Lafayette, great people to work with. I haul it in the back of my truck and use a bed extender...no problem loading/unloading. Everyone has a different taste and preference, but I am very happy with my Nucanoe 12.

Check out the Nucanoe site and go to the Forum and you can learn a lot more about it, especially rigging opportunities.

I picked up a Jackson Big Tuna a few months back to bring the wife and kids along too. So far, I have been using it solo on the local reservoir and loving it. I can't wait to take the kids out (they will love it).

Some of the early NuCanoe models got knocked for being heavy, but the newer models seem to be well liked.

i bought the frontier 12 last spring and have been very happy with it. It is a big yak, but hauls fine in the standard sized bed of my pickup. I just secure it with one rope through the handles. I tipped it over last summer to see what it would take. I had to sit on one side and the kayak tilted at least on a 45 degree angle behind me. In fact sitting on the side I had to lean forward before it rolled over. When I say sitting on the side I mean actually on the edge of it. I have taken it out and swam off of it before in the middle of the lake. My point being, it is possible to get back in it in the middle of the lake without going to shore. I have frequently fished 2 adults out of it, and if you both have good balance you can both stand at the same time. One person can stand relatively easily in it while fishing. I would suggest some type of a seat with a back on it. I haven't invested in a good seat yet, but plan on it. There is plenty of room for extra gear in it, if it is just one person. I don't have to worry about tipping it over with a fish finder etc...and be concerned about losing it. As far as paddling it is concerned I have never owned any other kayak so I really don't have anything to compare it to. There have been times where I was paddling into a headwind and it's been a chore, but I assumed that was part of the kayak experience. I have taken my wife and two daughters all out. The girls were 6 and 3 last summer. It was a little tight, but we made it.

No not yet. Saving up. I have a lot of other stuff that I need first. I'll Have one by the time winter sets in. About the time it's almost too cold to use it.

Never too cold in Cajun country. Woops I forgot you might be tied to weekends. I'm fortunate to be able to watch the weather and go most any day, and there are always good days in the winter. They just might not be on the weekend.

Verry much tied to weekends and even worse select weekends. That's why I don't fish that often any more.

I have the older model nuanoe and yes it might be a little heavier than the new model but, with a little engineering I made my own dolly and it works great. It's very stable, my wife and I have been it a and it has never felt unstable.
